Quantitative Cerebral Blood Flow Mapping in Stroke and During Mental Stimulation After Intravenous Injection of 195mAu

The new short life isotope 195mAu has some suitable features for quantitative cerebral blood flow mapping. Its half-life is 30.5 s; therefore an injection can be repeated after 3 min (six half-lives) without any need for background subtraction and with the same specific activity. The calculated whole body radiation dose after three successive administrations of 25 mCi 195mAu amounts to 50 mrad. In comparison to a 99mTc pertechnetate injection it is estimated that the dose to the patients is reduced by a factor of eight (Garcia et al. 1981).

Packaging is strictly connected to environmental issues as it is a product characterised by high material consumption rate; it is often transported over long distances and has a short life. Providing environmental analysis is, therefore, urgent to identify energy and resources efficient solutions. Sales forecasting is an essential task in retailing. In particular, consumer-oriented markets such as fashion and electronics face uncertain demands, short life cycles and a lack of historical sales data which strengthen the challenges of producing accurate forecasts. This survey paper presents state-of-the-art methods in the sales forecasting research with a focus on fashion and new product forecasting. This study also reviews different strategies to the predictive value of user-generated content and search queries.

Need for speed? Exploring the relative importance of patents and utility models among German firms

Despite the wide use of two-tiered patent systems (patents and utility models (UMs)), there is little empirical evidence about how often UMs are actually used, what kind of firms use them to protect their intellectual property, and how firms rank them relative to patents. We offer such an analysis using data from Germany. We find that larger firms are more likely to use both protection methods. Moreover, a short life cycle of products and services is associated with an increased likelihood to use UMs. The features and functioning of the German UM system are of broader interest because it has been a benchmark for several second tier patent protection systems around the world. peerReviewed
